QLD: A strong high pressure system in the Bight is creating a slight ridge across most of the state. A trough over northern New South Wales will move south, away from Queensland. There may be a weak trough forming in the Gulf Country on Friday as the high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea.
NSW and ACT: A big high pressure area is above the state, making it wet and windy in the east. A low pressure system will form, moving south and then decaying. Weak fronts will cross the south, with a strong cold front coming next week, bringing cold and windy weather.
VIC: A strong high pressure system near Bass Strait will shift eastward while a low pressure system forms in eastern NSW, moving southward on Friday and clearing to the southeast by Saturday. Winds will become northwesterly and pick up in Victoria on Sunday, ahead of a cold front arriving early next week.
SA: A high pressure ridge is sitting along SA's coast. It will shift east on Friday as a cold front comes from the west. Strong cold fronts are forecasted to move across the southern areas of the state this weekend and early next week.
WA: A high pressure system in the Bight is causing strong easterly winds in northern WA. By Friday, the winds will ease as the system weakens and a trough brings light rain to the Kimberley and North Interior.
TAS: A high pressure system is currently over northern Tasmania, moving east over the Tasman Sea by Friday. A low will form northeast of the state, passing to the east on Saturday morning. A weak cold front will follow, with a stronger front expected from the west on Sunday.
NT: A strong high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight is keeping things dry in the Northern Territory. Some areas in the central districts will see scattered showers due to a band of clouds. A trough will pass through the southern districts this weekend, bringing showers to the southwest starting on Sunday.
