Australian State Summaries

QLD: High pressure in eastern Queensland means calm weather. A trough in the Coral Sea extends to a weak tropical low in the Arafura Sea. This may bring rain to Far North Queensland. A deepening low in the Tasman Sea will create rough seas and dangerous surf in southern Queensland. A weak trough may bring rain to southwestern Queensland soon.

NSW and ACT: A big patch of high pressure is hanging out over the state right now and should stick around until the weekend. At the same time, an old tropical cyclone, Tam, is heading south over the ocean as a weak low pressure system. A cold front and trough are expected to pass through the southern part of the state over the weekend.

VIC: A big area of high pressure over Victoria will stick around until Friday. Then a weaker area of low pressure will move through. Another low pressure system is coming from the west on Saturday and will reach Victoria on Sunday.

SA: A low pressure system is moving slowly east across the state, weakening over the east today. A stronger system will move into the west on Friday, with a cold front coming from the south on Saturday. Both systems will move east on Sunday as a new high pressure system forms in the Bight.

WA: Severe Tropical Cyclone Errol is getting stronger as it heads south off the Kimberley coast. It's expected to turn back east towards the Kimberley coast on Friday or Saturday. Conditions will worsen by Thursday but the system will weaken before landfall, though it's still forecasted to be a cyclone. A trough in Pilbara will move eastward to the North Interior by Friday, with a new trough forming near the west Pilbara coast over the weekend.

TAS: A weak line of low pressure is near the west coast and will move across the state today. A low-pressure system forms in the Bight on Friday, moving towards Tasmania's west coast on Saturday, then shifting northeast over Victoria on Sunday. A high-pressure ridge covers the south on Monday.

NT: A ridge in the Northern Territory will bring dry weather to the Top End before weakening. A tropical low in the Arafura Sea could move towards the northeast Top End and Gulf of Carpentaria. Showers are expected in western areas as a trough moves south over the weekend.
