Australian State Summaries

QLD

Queensland's ridge will be hanging around for a few days before taking a break over the weekend and then coming back even stronger next week, while a possible trough up north could team up with the ridge to bring some much-needed rain to the northeast. Get ready for a southeasterly change sweeping in on Sunday night in the southwest, making its way over to the southeast by Monday evening.

NSW and ACT

In NSW, get ready for some scorching hot weather thanks to a high pressure system bringing a hot airmass over the state, followed by a cool change with a cold front and trough on the way to give us some relief. As the new high pressure system drifts to the Tasman Sea early next week, brace yourself for a mix of sunny conditions in the south and east, while a lingering trough in the west will keep things interesting.

VIC

Victoria is currently under a high pressure ridge, but don't get too comfortable because a hot northerly flow is coming your way on Saturday. Just when you thought you could enjoy a break, a cold front will crash the party on Sunday before another ridge takes over on Monday.

SA

SA is in for a scorcher as a high pressure system from the Tasman Sea is bringing a hot northerly airstream, but don't worry, a trough and cold front will cool things down on Saturday followed by a strong high moving in from the Bight on Monday and heading towards the Tasman Sea on Tuesday.

WA

Inland northern WA is getting cozy under a broad trough, but don't get too comfortable because a high pressure ridge is crashing the party on Sunday, pushing the trough towards the Pilbara coast and bringing some fresh southeasterly winds along for the ride.

TAS

On Saturday, get ready for a blast of chilly air from the west as a strong cold front heads towards Tasmania, bringing with it a northwesterly breeze; by Sunday morning, brace yourself for a cold and blustery southwesterly wind that will stick around until Monday when a ridge moves in to calm things down; then on Tuesday, a weak high will settle over Bass Strait, hopefully bringing some relief from the wild weather.

NT

The Northern Territory is currently experiencing a broad area of low pressure, with a trough forming in the Arafura Sea - better pack an umbrella and hold onto your hat! A ridge will soon stretch over the southeast, but don't get too comfortable, as a trough is brewing in Western Australia, set to bring cooler temperatures and gusty winds to the south come Sunday.
