Australian State Summaries

QLD

Interior Queensland will experience a weakening trough drifting westward, while eastern Queensland will have a persisting ridge strengthening slightly from Friday, with potential for increased rainfall in the northeast tropical coast and Far North Queensland due to a possible trough forming to the north over the weekend or early next week.

NSW and ACT

Inland NSW will see a weakening trough today, thanks to a high pressure system extending a ridge along the coast - brace yourself for a weak southerly change along the southern coast. Get ready for a hot weekend as a deepening high over the Tasman Sea drags a hot airmass across the state, but don't get too comfortable - a stronger cold front is on the horizon for later in the weekend through the early new week.

VIC

In Victoria, a trough is causing some weather drama in the south central and northwestern parts of the state, connected to a low pressure system near Tasmania, with a high pressure system making its way across the Bight and expected to move over Bass Strait by tonight, followed by a cold front crossing the state on Sunday.

SA

Looks like the far northeast will be stuck with a low pressure trough while a weak high hangs out in the Bight - classic case of bad luck. Watch out for that high moving east on Friday, bringing along a trough and cold front for a not-so-fun Saturday in SA. But hey, at least a strong high will start to take shape in the Bight on Sunday - silver lining, right?

WA

Looks like we've got a broad trough hanging out over us, but don't worry, a strong high pressure ridge is coming to crash the party from the south and push that trough towards the Pilbara coast, giving us some fresh southeasterly winds to enjoy.

TAS

The Tasman Sea is hogging all the rain, leaving us high and dry with a weak ridge moving in for the weekend, but don't get too comfortable because a cold front is crashing the party on Sunday.

NT

The Northern Territory is currently experiencing a broad area of low pressure, with a trough making an appearance in the Arafura Sea and another one set to make its way into the southeastern parts from the east on Thursday - looks like someone didn't get the memo about avoiding overcrowding.
